Protium Launches Surrey Hub to Boost UK Hydrogen Supply Resilience
Posted: June 10, 2026
PROTIUM HAS ESTABLISHED THE UK’S LARGEST GREEN HYDROGEN DISTRIBUTION NETWORK WITH NEW STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
Strategic network expansion: Protium scales its industry-leading regional logistics infrastructure, adding a critical fourth major distribution hub at Dunsfold Park, Surrey, to create the UK’s most robust hydrogen transit network.
Supply resilience: In parallel with the network expansion, a strategic commercial partnership with H-Power plc secures an additional source of fuel cell grade green hydrogen to flow through Protium’s UK-wide distribution grid. Protium, the UK’s leading green hydrogen energy company, has officially established the nation’s largest interconnected green hydrogen distribution network following a landmark milestone contract and logistics agreement.
While the strategic partnership with H-Power plc secures additional ISO 14687 Grade D (99.97% purity) PEM fuel cell grade green hydrogen gas for Protium’s customers, the core milestone of this agreement is the operational integration of a vital fourth distribution hub into Protium’s rapidly scaling national infrastructure. By activating this new node, Protium has created an unparalleled logistics and transit network explicitly built to guarantee security of supply for British industry through optimised routing and distribution.
Christopher Jackson, CEO and Founder of Protium, commented:
“This collaboration effectively showcases how innovative technology, and strategic distribution can overcome traditional pricing and logistics barriers, accelerating the path to a resilient and self-sustaining green hydrogen economy. By integrating this supply into our logistics network and establishing a ‘virtual depot’ at Dunsfold, we are expanding our end-to-end capability to deliver practical, zero-emission solutions to industrial and transport sectors today. This is how we make green hydrogen simple and real for customers.”
John Wilson, CEO of H-Power plc, commented:
“By partnering with Protium together we are unlocking the joint challenges of hydrogen logistics and hydrogen pricing, delivering reliable hydrogen production, supply, storage and distribution at scale and at commercially viable prices. We are enabling customers and industries to decarbonise today, and I am pleased that the UK Government and Environment Agency support our important role.”
The UK’s Largest Green Hydrogen Distribution Grid
With this newest activation at Dunsfold Park in Surrey, Protium’s nationwide footprint expands to three operational production sites and four dedicated hydrogen supply hubs, backed by a growing fleet of industrial distribution assets for customer deliveries.
By transitioning from isolated project sites to an interconnected, network-based distribution model, Protium can dynamically route fuel across the UK to offer unparalleled supply resilience, successfully mitigating market infrastructure bottlenecks. This rapidly scaling network seamlessly links Protium’s primary operational anchors—including Pioneer 1, the flagship Pioneer 2 facility in Wales, and the South Coast Hydrogen hub in Dorset—directly with the new Surrey distribution base, creating an agile ecosystem capable of moving energy where it is needed most.
Looking ahead, this infrastructure network is primed for exponential growth. Protium is already advancing major pipeline assets to anchor its next phase of logistics expansion, including its planned heavy industrial production and distribution hubs in Teesside and the high-capacity Cromarty project in Scotland— cementing its position as a leading end-to-end producer, distributor and supplier in the UK green energy market.

ABOUT PROTIUM
Protium is one of the UK’s leading green hydrogen companies. We make green hydrogen simple for customers by providing end-to-end solutions that help businesses decarbonise reliably, affordably, and safely, replacing fossil fuels across various sectors—including construction, manufacturing, industrial, and transport.
By pioneering the scale-up and adoption of green hydrogen and its derivatives in the UK, Protium delivers practical hydrogen solutions that work today. Our capabilities span production, distribution, and on-site deployment, supported by expert guidance from technical services to commercial development to enable a confident transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
Protium has scaled its national portfolio to operate an interconnected network consisting of three production sites and four distribution hubs. This strategic operational footprint includes the flagship Pioneer 2 facility in Wales, the South Coast Hydrogen hub in Dorset, a significant project acquisition pipeline in Scotland, and major hub projects in South Teesside.
H-Power plc (formerly known as AFC Energy Plc) is a leading provider of ammonia-based low carbon hydrogen production and hydrogen-to-power solutions. Our market-leading decentralised ammonia cracker and fuel cell generator products are engineered to unlock the low carbon hydrogen market by meeting customers’ needs with scalable, reliable supplies of low carbon hydrogen and power. H-Power is enabling customers to decarbonise at a price that is commercially viable.
We are focused on the successful commercial rollout of our core product suite and on creating significant shareholder value by converting our growing opportunity pipeline into contracted orders and delivering sustained revenue growth.
Our core strategy is to develop and deploy products that enable the production of scalable, reliable supplies of clean hydrogen at commercially viable prices and without reliance on government subsidies or incentives. H-Power achieves this through our proprietary, decentralised and modular ammonia cracker technology, and providing low carbon, off‑grid power solutions with our fuel cell generators that are competitive with, and capable of displacing, diesel generators on a total cost of ownership basis.
The Company’s modular, decentralised ammonia cracker systems have production capacities of approximately 0.5 and 4 tonnes of hydrogen per day respectively. These enable the generation of scaled volumes of low carbon hydrogen at the point of use within a highly compact footprint. Our systems have the potential to drive substantial revenue growth across a wide range of addressable markets, including hard‑to‑abate industrial facilities, transportation and power generation applications.
H-Power’s fuel cell generator systems are currently offered with generation capacities of 30 kW and 200 kW. They are well-suited to off‑grid, decentralised and temporary power applications, including the displacement of diesel generators on construction and infrastructure sites. Further use cases include electric vehicle charging for cars, buses and trucks, as well as charging of battery‑powered non‑road machinery, with additional emerging opportunities in maritime, data centre and rail applications.
H-Power is listed on the London Stock Exchange’s AIM Market and headquartered in Dunsfold, Surrey, UK.
