You will work on some of the most challenging and innovative decarbonisation projects that have been proposed in the UK (and perhaps the world), whilst contributing towards the UKʼs Net Zero emission goals. We offer regular contact time with senior management, as well as significant autonomy and authority to lead project workstreams and own relationships with clients as well as suppliers.

The Role:

Protium are looking for an ambitious and competent Planning senior associate to join our growing team. The Planning Senior Associate shall report into the Project Leads. Protium values candidates who are self-starters, willing to learn quickly and can contribute to part of an exciting company in a rapidly expanding space. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

Their activities will include (but may not be limited to):

- Lead the planning and permitting aspects associated with the renewable energy facility, the electrolysis plant and all associated infrastructure across all Protium’s projects.

- Working with the project lead to ensure that the planning and permitting aspects are undertaken in line with the project requirements and adequately accounted for in the project schedule.

- Engage with and manage planning and permitting consultants to ensure that the process of planning and permitting is undertaken in a manner that is most likely to lead to success, including reviewing planning and permitting documents produced by consultants and providing feedback and guidance.

- Liaise with local authorities and planners to ensure that the project is promoted, and any issues are appropriately managed

- Liaising with the technical leads on the project to ensure that all technical requirements for the asset are appropriately reflected in the environmental permit and planning application.

- The opportunity to run projects as Project Lead, managing a team delivering a project and liaising with C-suite on your project.

Experience:

Essential:

- Experience delivering successful planning outcomes within the energy sector.

- Knowledge of the working of the UK planning and permitting system associated with the permitting of projects.

- Experience in the planning and permitting of technically complex projects.

- Ability to analyse a project from a planning and permitting perspective to optimise the project to increase its likelihood of receiving a successful planning outcome.

- Candidates must possess strong excel skills, with additional coding knowledge/VBA and Microsoft Project a bonus but not required. Knowledge of full Microsoft office suite, notably PowerPoint.

- Ability to and experience in managing third party consultants.

- Knowledge of environmental requirements required for a project (e.g. Environmental Impact Assessments) surrounding the different land designations for different UK locations.

Preferred:

- Experience in renewable project development, primarily in solar and wind, is also a significant bonus but it is not required.

- Experience in drafting EIA’s for energy projects

- Ability to research local and planning environmental requirements.

- Experience in planning and permitting in other jurisdictions (Europe etc)

- Experience executing technical scopes as well as acting as a project lead.

- Preparing Scopes of Work for planning and permitting consultants and reviewing technical proposals.

Qualifications:

- Candidates should have a strong academic background with a BSc/MSc in a relevant discipline. Candidates with additional qualification in renewable energy (especially PV) would be preferred.

- Candidates should have a minimum of 5 - 10 years of relevant experience.
