Company Overview:

Protium Green Solutions is a UK-focused green hydrogen energy company which supports clients to reach net zero emissions across their heat, power and mobility requirements. We are a fast-growing business, with some of the leading global voices in the emerging green hydrogen market on our team. Deeply passionate about addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, our focus on green hydrogen is driven by the desire to see the UK transition rapidly towards renewable resources.

The first pure-play hydrogen energy company in the UK, we offer a unique opportunity to learn about the possibilities and challenges of deploying green hydrogen solutions. You will work on some of the most innovative decarbonisation projects that have been proposed in the UK, whilst contributing towards the country’s Net Zero emission goals. We offer regular contact time with senior management, as well as significant autonomy and authority to lead workstreams and own relationships with clients as well as suppliers.

This is the perfect opportunity for an ambitious candidate that is looking to stretch their knowledge and skills and accelerate their career path.

The Role:

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our growing Finance Team and support the company during a period of rapid growth and development. Able and willing to shape the way that the business maximises the use of its resources, the ideal candidate will be someone comfortable working independently, developing strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and applying their financial expertise across a range of disciplines.

The role is perfect for a newly qualified accountant who has ambitions to progress their career into senior finance roles. Any candidate should have a passion for sustainability and will be a critical thinker who looks to understand the business beyond a focus on numbers and spreadsheets.

The role will report into the Senior Finance Business Partner (SFBP). Their key activities include:

- Collaborating with the Development and Investment teams to construct Business Cases for large scale projects

- Offering guidance, insight and expertise to project managers and other key stakeholders, enabling them to make effective decisions and take responsibility for budgets.

- Maintaining a process to report actual project spend against budget across Protium’s entire project portfolio.

- Working closely with project managers and the finance team to prepare management information ahead of project board meetings and steering committees.

- Helping communicate and provide clarity over delegation of authority and upholding governance across both Project Development and other areas, helping manage change as the business grows.

- Supporting the Financial Controller (FC) and SFBP in the migration to a new accounting software, helping to integrate budgets, forecasts, and timesheets.

- Support the FC and SFBP in monitoring Protium’s Budget and Financial Plan against actual spend and commitments, and reporting into the Senior Management Committee on the financial performance of the company.

- Helping to improve, standardise, and automate existing internal company reports.

- Providing financial support for grant applications and act as the primary finance contact for grant providers.

- Supporting the SFPB on fundraising activities at both TopCo and Project level as required

- Providing ad-hoc analytic support to the Finance and Investment teams.

Required Experience:

Protium values candidates who are self-starters, willing to learn quickly and can contribute to part of an exciting company in a rapidly expanding industry. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced and challenging environment, as well as confident to put their ideas forward and challenge if required. The successful candidate will have:

- Experience in a finance or investment function, public accounting practice, with a proven ability to provide key management information for decision making.

- Demonstrable experience of effective collaboration with stakeholders outside a finance function.

- Understanding of the principles of effective project accounting, budgeting, and forecasting.

- Understanding of effective business case and investment principles.

- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with stakeholders across all levels.

- Excellent organisation and time management skills.

- Strong skills in Microsoft office suite, notably Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

- Experience in the energy industry an advantage but not a requirement.
